Lady Gaga

I have no idea why it took me so long to blog about the Lady Gaga concert but with the release of her "Born This Way" video today I figured it was time for a Gaga post. The concert was on Monday, February 21st at Madison Square Garden but we were in the city for a few days before the show and Sunday night we went out with our friend Tiffany and (unsurprisingly) got wasted which resulted in a 2nd degree burn on Justin's knuckles, don't try to make pizza while inebriated, and a hell of a hangover. Unfortunately we had to get to the Garden early to reserve spots in line since we had general admission tickets and the earlier you get in line the closer to the stage you are and needless to say, it was a rough 6 hours on the cold Manhattan sidewalk. I'm proud to say that I only had to sprint from line once to vomit which is quite an accomplishment for me. So after observing all the fellow fans (men in drag, replicas of Gaga's most outrageous outfits, etc.) and seeking refuge from the cold in a pharmacy, Wendy's, and Borders we were finally let into the arena which subsequently led to a stampede to the stage to secure prime viewing. After another solid hour of waiting The Scissor Sisters, Fun Fact: they got their name from the act of "scissoring" which lesbians partake in and this fact makes them immediately amazing, took the stage as Gaga's opening act and having never previously heard them I was very pleasantly surprised. The Scissor Sisters complimented Gaga's show very well and just look at the outfit that Sisters' front-man Jake Shears was wearing! Fabulous!

Following the Scissor Sisters' set we waited another hour and a half and endured at least 20 "BORN! THIS! WAY!" chants but finally Mother Monster took to the stage. Anyone who has ever watched Lady Gaga before knows that she is a great performer but in person there is an intensity about her that is incredible and more than a little scary. She screamed and sang her way through a 2-hour plus show. Her voice was strong but I was most impressed with all the talking she did to the crowd. She was very empowering and made her fans, at least myself, feel like they could do anything. She also jokingly referenced the rumor that she has a penis, she doesn't if you're curious and was just an entirely great entertainer and speaker. She sang all her biggest hits and the entire crowd, which included Paul McCartney in the front row, was singing and dancing along. Here is a kind of blurry, dark picture of McCartney.
Overall it was an amazing experience and made me love Lady Gaga even more than I already did PLUS I forgot to mention that the show was being recorded by HBO to air on the channel on May 6th so all of you with HBO should tune in and try to spot Justin and I in the crowd. We put on a show for the cameras a few times. Okay now on to some pics of Mother Monster herself.

And here's a picture of Justin, Tiffany and I waiting for the show to start.
Okay I'm gonna wrap this post up but everyone should check out Lady Gaga's new video for "Born This Way" because she not only gives birth to a race free of judgement, she also dances her ass off and rocks some zombie/skeleton-esque makeup which is pretty badass. Not to mention that her body looks flawless.

R.I.P. Girlicious

The stupendously skanky trio (formerly a foursome) has officially called it quits and their 15 fans, myself and Justin included, are just devastated. The group was created on a CW reality show entitled The Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicous and it was every bit as tacky and trashy as the title suggests but I was obsessed with the catty antics of the beautiful bitches. Nichole Cordova, Natalie Mejia, Chrystina Sayers and Tiffanie Anderson (only featured on their first album) made some great dance/pop music. Their energetic live performances, and their svelte figures even prompted my friend Leigh and I to create the "Girlicious Diet" which consisted of eating nothing and dancing constantly in order to get in shape for revealing Halloween costumes. One of my biggest regrets is never seeing the group live but I suppose sobbing over old YouTube videos will have to suffice. For everyone reading this that has no idea who I'm talking about I'll post some of their finest work. You're welcome!

Girlicious - Maniac This is easily their best song and should have been a worldwide smash but people suck so it was basically a huge flop but the accompanying video is sexy as fack so check it out.

Girlicious - Liar Liar Hot song, great choreography.

Girlcious - Stupid Shit One of the trashiest videos ever? Probably. Amazing? Hell yes!

Girlicous - Like Me Their first single and only minor hit, it should have been a bigger hit.

Oscar Post

Alright, so i've seen quite a few of the Oscar nominated films this year and i've decided to give my insight on the ones I have seen.

First one of the year I saw was Toy Story 3.

Let me just say that in my opinion this was in my opinions one of the best choices for best picture. The movie allows audiences both young and old to get back in touch with their inner child. Without giving too much away the movie focuses on Andy getting ready to venture off to college and trying to figure out what to do with all the toys from his childhood. Not going to lie, by the end of this movie I was in tear mode and really felt the movie did a good job of showing what it's like to move on from childhood.

Next, i'd like to turn my attention to Black Swan.

This for me was probably one of the most anticipated movies of the year. I had heard such good things about the movie from the time it was released and was soooo ready for it to be released to theatres over Christmas break but it never came. I ended up downloading the movie online and watching it over my break. Let me just say I was thoroughly impressed with the movie. It's definitely a movie you need to go into with an open mind otherwise you will most likely think it's just a cheesy hollywood attempt. However, if you don't just take the movie for face value you will realize that the acting is incredible, the story is great, and it's just an overall good movie. I'm truly rooting for Natalie Portman to win the Oscar for Best Actress. However, if Annette Benning pulls an upset I wouldn't be totally crushed.

The next film I will be looking at is Inception.

Well, what is there to say about this one. WHAT a mind fuck. I absolutely loved this movie. I thought the concept was so creative and it was just so intense to watch. While many people most likely walked away from this being like what the hell? It really isn't that difficult to understand. If you simply place the pieces of the movie together and figure out what each different part of the dreams represents then you should have no problem understand. But, if you still can't get it for yourself there are plenty of blogs out there that give some great interpretations of the film. I am SO excited that everyone is signed on to do a sequel and i'm sure that it will produce some great things.

And finally, tonight I was able to watch The Kids Are Alright.

I absolutely loved this movie. I think it was a very real account of what any family could go through (minus a few little logistics) Other than that I was very happy to see a lesbian couple and the struggles they go through as they raise their 2 children. The movie has a very Little Miss Sunshine vibe and if you're open to some interesting real life viewpoints then definitely try this one out.

Britney Spears

Okay I just watched the new Britney Spears video, "Hold It Against Me" and I felt the need to blog about my endless love for Ms. Spears. I've been obsessed with Britney since 1999 and in some ways I almost feel like we grew up together. I cheered when she excelled (i.e. her "Oops...I Did It Again" and "Slave 4 U" VMA performances) and was devastated when her life fell apart (i.e. shaving her head, being strapped to a gurney and her "Gimme More" VMA performance) but regardless of whether I was thrilled or depressed I always cared and I can literally think of no other celebrity that am so moved by or care so much about. I don't know if it's her southern charm and endearingly obvious lack of fashion sense or her always catchy music and eye popping videos but I just can't not like the girl. Her first record was released while she was 16 and produced the #1 single "...Baby One More Time" and this year, at the age of 29, she will release her 7th album Femme Fatale, which features fellow #1 single "Hold It Against Me", proving that she has the fan base and staying power of fellow icons like Madonna and Cher. I'm currently slightly drunk and high on a few hits of Britney (a.k.a. I watched her new video like 15 times) so I'll stop rambling but here is a link to the new video and a few of my fave Brit pictures. Enjoy!

Parks and Recreation

Justin and I have been obsessed with this show for the past week. Amy Poehler is hilarious as the optimistic but dim-witted Leslie Knope. Here is a video with a collection of some of her funniest moments from the first two seasons.
Leslie Knope

I also just started watching Six Feet Under and while it is a completely different show than P&R I'm definitely enjoying the dark humor vibe and it was created by Alan Ball, the man that wrote American Beauty which is one of my favorite movies so if you haven't seen either you should check them out.

The Grammys

Each year the Grammy Awards honor the music industries most talented and successful. The 53rd annual Grammy Awards took place Sunday, February 13, 2011 in Los Angeles and featured many explosive performances and memorable moments. The first shocking moment occurred when Lady Gaga arrived on the red carpet in a pod, representing the womb, and was carried down the carpet by a bevy of tan, half-naked people. The official show kicked off with a tribute to Aretha Franklin featuring five talented ladies including Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Martina McBride, Yolanda Adams and Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine. The performance was a rousing homage and all involved sounded amazing, however Aguilera is starting to resemble Snooki in a blonde wig and stumbled a bit at the very end of the performance. Early in the show Lady Gaga “hatched” from her pod to perform her empowering new single, “Born This Way.” By Gaga standards her outfit was basic and, as my friend put it, she looked a bit like a noodle. The performance itself was fairly tame and dare I say a little boring, however the new song is quite great even if it does bear a resemblance to Madonna’s 1989 hit, “Express Yourself”. Justin Beiber’s much hyped act proved the teen a talented performer and featured a guest spot by a nimble Jaden Smith but when Usher took the stage immediately after he proved that the two have a long way to go before they can truly be compared to the best in the game. Lady Gaga won “Best Pop Vocal Album” and accepted her Grammy in a black leather get-up complete with horns on her forehead and shoulders. She also thanked all her “little monsters” a.k.a. her fans and Whitney Houston whom she envisioned singing “Born This Way” when she wrote it. Later in the show Bob Dylan performed and I respect Dylan and his immense talent but it might be time to retire, as his gravelly chanting was hardly pleasing, but maybe it was just an off night. The true standout performance came in the middle of the show from Cee-Lo Green and Gwyneth Paltrow featuring the Muppets. The duo sang Green’s song “Forget You” wearing costumes that I’m sure left Gaga green with envy. They sounded great and the performance was a shining moment in an otherwise fairly bleak show. Another well-received performance came from Bruno Mars, who sang a medley of his recent hits, with B.O.B. and Janelle Monae. Katy Perry, Rihanna and Eminem also all brought energy to the stage and solidified their superstar status. Mick Jagger, at 67 years old, took to the Grammy stage for the first time and proved that he can still keep up with the best of the best with an electric and energetic performance that riled up the crowd of celebrities and fans. The sex appeal of the night was brought by Rihanna during her “What’s My Name” performance with Drake when she strutted and posed her way across the stage looking absolutely stunning. When it comes to the actual awards it was a night of upsets with several relatively unknowns winning some of the main categories. Best New Artist went to Esperanza Spalding, beating Justin Beiber and Florence and the Machine and Album of the Year went to Arcade Fire who beat Eminem and Lady Gaga. Country group, Lady Antebellum took home Record of the Year for their smash hit “Need You Now” and Lady Gaga, Usher, Rihanna and Train all took home awards for their music as well. Arcade Fire closed the show and proved that they are indeed talented and perhaps worthy of the prestigious award bestowed upon them. The show featured some high points and some low points but overall it was an enjoyable event.

Miley Cyrus

I think it's about time I go out on a limb and defend my girl Miley Cyrus. So as well all know Miley was recently caught in a scandal which involved her alleged use of the drug Salvia. For those of you unfamiliar with the incident see the enclosed video Miley smokes Salvia.

Miley recently commented on the incident saying "I'm not perfect. I made a mistake. I'm disappointed in myself for disappointing my fans," Miley told the interviewer. But when pressed whether it truly was a mistake—thousands of colleges kids do the same thing (or worse) every day—Miley's answer was earnest and surprisingly mature. "But they're not Miley Cyrus," she explained. "They're not role models. So for me it was a bad decision, because of my fans and because of what I stand for."

I'd just like to say that, as someone who is 21 years of age I completely agree with what she is saying. Yes the things she chooses to do may be somewhat controversial and people judge her because they question her taste and judgment. Well I have something to say to all you HATERS.

Miley is a young woman who has made a career for herself in Hollywood. Starting at 13 years old Miley has been in the spotlight almost the entire time. Her life on Hannah Montana thrusted her into stardom including magazine covers, million dollar endorsements, and sold out concert tours around the world. I think that people tend to judge her because they don't understand her decisions. Well let me put it into terms us "normal" people might understand. Miley has grown up in the spotlight and has been forced to grow up fast. She was on forbes list in 2010 for making 48 MILLION $$$. I'd have to say that is quite an accomplishment. From her scandals of the magazine cover showing her nearly naked, to her leaked cell phone pictures and more recent music video and salvia controversy. I just think that people need to understand that she is young and is going to make mistakes. It just so happens that she is in the public eye and under intense scrutiny. How many of you have done things she did at 16,17, 18 years old. Kids these days are growing up a lot faster than older generations and I just think she deserves more credit than she is given. Miley is, in my opinion, a talented singer, songwriter, actress, model, and designer and this is all before she even turns 18 years old. SO i'd just like to ask, lets all take a moment and take a look at the amazing things Miley HAS done rather than look at how she has "let down her young fans" Miley has older fans like myself and she is growing and coming into her own. Obviously she can't sing about being Hannah Montana and dress like she's 12 years old forever. 18 year olds go to college, get drunk, experiment, dress inappropriately. But face it, the only reason people criticize her this way is because she is in the public eye and a role model.

So, in conclusion, i'd just like to say congratulations to Miley Cyrus, for all she has accomplished and everything she has to accomplish in the future. And to the HATERS, when you make 45 million dollars in one year, i'll listen to your reasoning for disliking her.

Also, this girl has started to look beautiful over the past couple of years.

Taylor Momsen

I was perusing the usual celebrity gossip blogs I frequent and I came across a picture of Taylor Momsen and her outfit offended me so much that I had to share the picture with all of our faithful readers. Keep in mind that she is 17 years old but this outfit would be heinous on anyone. Ugh I want to choke her with those tacky suspenders.
On a happier note I have found my weekly song obsession. This week it is "Rollin in the Deep" by Adele. I love the melody, the beat, the lyrics and her voice. Everything about it is amazing. Here is a live version which is even better than the album version.

WHAT A WEEK!

So, i've just realized that the blog hasn't been updated since MONDAY. How are we going to have loyal followers if we never update. Anyway, the Robyn concert was incredible. Her energy really gets the crowd going which I LOVE! After a long drive home from Vermont we we're blessed with an incredible snow day which resulted in eating tons of delicious food and spending the night drinking our livers to death. Aside from that I managed to make it to a total of 2 classes for the week. I think I may have set a new personal record with that one. Josh and I were supposed to go snow tubing today but the weather has prevented that. Now we are waiting for Sophieeeee to bless us with her presence and have an amazing night out with our friends. On another note I turn 22 in less than 2 weeks. I reallyyy am so excited for my birthday party! I know a few of you know what i'm being but for those of you who don't i'll just say it involves fishnet arm gloves and a great mask.

I've also been really obsessed with Madonna lately and think you all need to check out this AMAZING track.
